Clove Essential Oil

Botanical name: Eugenia caryophyllata
Botanical family: Myrtaceae

Note: Base

Part of plant used: Buds

Origin: Clove originates from the Molucca Islands and Indonesia. It is also cultivated in Zanzibar, Madagascar, Java, and Sri Lanka.

Description: Spicy and strong

History: Clove has a long history as an antiseptic. The Chinese chewed on Cloves to ease toothache.

Properties and Indications:

  • Helps ease toothache and mouth sores
  • Digestive system - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, bad breath and parasites
  • Good for intestinal disorders and is a tonic to the kidneys and spleen
  • Can help with rheumatism and arthritis
  • Headaches
  • Respiratory problems - bronchitis, asthma
  • Insect repellent
  • Skin sores, leg ulcers and infectious wounds

Contra-indications:

  • Use with precaution as Clove is a very potent oil
  • Can be a skin irritant
