Hyssop Essential Oil

Botanical name: Hyssopus Officinalis
Botanical family: Labiatae

Note: Middle

Part of plant used: Leaves and flowering tops

Origin: Hyssop is common in the Midi region of France and the Mediterranean.

Description: Not a strong aroma but very in-depth and powerful.

History: The Hebrews called Hyssop, Ezob. Used in biblical times as a great cleanser.

Properties and Indications:

  • Raises low blood pressure - good for the circulatory system
  • Chest complaints - allows the bronchioles to dilate
  • Asthma - use in an oil burner rather than as a massage or inhalation
  • Sudorific
  • Mucousy states, pussy conditions
  • Effective on the parasympathetic nervous system
  • Can be healing to the skin in cases of dermatitis and eczema

  • Cleanses the soul and spirit, particularly for morbid states
  • Depression with no real reason - suicidal tendencies
  • Helps people to go deeper - by-passes the mind
  • Deep seated fear, superstitious fear
  • Obsession

Contra-indications:

  • Do not use if pregnant
  • Can cause nausea, dizziness, convulsions
  • Do not use on epileptics or people with high blood pressure
